减压蒸馏的核心设备是减压塔和它的抽真空系统。减压蒸馏的原理与常压蒸馏相同，关键是减压塔顶采用了抽真空设备，使塔顶的压力降到几千帕。抽真空设备的作用是将塔内产生的不凝气（主要是裂解气和漏入的空气）和吹入的水蒸气连续地抽走以保证减压塔的真空度要求。减压塔的抽真空设备常用的是蒸汽喷射器（steam ejector，也称蒸汽吸射泵）或机械真空泵（mechanical vacuum pump）。其中机械真空泵只在一些干式减压蒸馏塔和小炼油厂的减压塔中采用，而广泛应用的是蒸汽喷射器。
